School Band Hoping To Get New Uniforms
PORTERVILLE -- A local high school band that has played in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Independence Square -- and marched in five Rose Parades -- is in desperate need of a facelift.
Members of Porterville High's Panther Band are performing in uniforms that are ragged and torn, said Dr. Ramon Resa.  Resa is spearheading a fund-raising campaign he hopes will raise $100,000 for new uniforms.

Club Official Says Freeze Is ‘Far From Over'
DINUBA - Almost two months have passed since the freeze of 2007 destroyed $418 million worth of crops in Tulare County and dissipated jobs from thousands of fieldworkers, but a Porterville Rotarian is determined to not let it be forgotten.
Dr. Ramon Resa, a pediatrician, spearheads the Rotary Club of Porterville's Freeze Relief Committee. He takes time from his practice to speak to other clubs, and whoever will listen, about the importance of not forgetting.

Battling With Obesity: Who's To Blame?
PORTERVILLE -- Children in America are becoming one of the most obese populations in the world, with California leading the nation as the state with the highest percentage of children who are overweight.
In this state, 45 percent of children are unhealthy and 25 percent are overweight, according to a recent report by the California Center for Public Health Advocacy.
Those figures match what local pediatrician Dr. Ramon Resa said he sees in his office.
"Basically one in four children who comes into my office is overweight," he said. "In infants it's not as prevalent; but I'm seeing a lot more teenagers with weight problems."

Fundraiser Fun For All
This year’s “Relay for Life” for survivors of sexual abuse made a strong showing Saturday with new digs, inspirational messages and most of all — fun for all who were there. Daisy Phipps has attended the fundraiser for two years and plans to continue coming, mostly because she appreciates the event’s goal.

I felt I missed a big part of my life,she said. “I didn’t get to do the things kids do. People don’t realize how important it is to let children be children.” Phipps found the keynote address by Dr. Ramon Resa, who shared his childhood experiences of abuse, the most inspiring
